PARISH CONFERENCES

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is an international Catholic organization of lay persons founded in 1833 by Frederic Ozanam and his fellow students. Placed under the patronage of St. Vincent de Paul, the Society derives its inspiration from his thinking and work. It seeks, in a spirit of justice and charity, and by person-to-person involvement of its members, to help those who are suffering.

The conference is the basic and essential grouping of the Society. Each such unit, generally parish based, engages regularly in person-to-person service to those in need. Conferences visit the poor who live within their parish boundaries. Funding and resources are donated within the parish to perform charitable services; all works of mercy conducted by conferences come from the good will of people within those parishes.

Conferences in the Baton Rouge Diocese are the Holy Family, Immaculate Conception (Baton Rouge), Immaculate Conception (Denham Springs), Our Lady of Mercy, St. Aloysius, St. Anthony, St. Francis Xavier, St. George, St. Isidore, St. Joseph (Paulina), St. Jude, St. Patrick, St. Pius X, St. Gerard, St. Joseph Cathedral, Holy Ghost in Hammond, Sacred Heart, St. Alphonsus, St. John the Evangelist, and St. Paul.
